A grant of probate confirms the executor’s authority to collect the assets in an estate, where the deceased left a valid will. A grant of letters of administration gives legal authority to those entitled to deal with the administration of an estate where an individual did not leave a will or where there is a will but no executors are able to act for whatever reason.
